Annual Meeting of the Regional Farm & Food Project & Thanksgiving Mixer
November 19, 2011
We have rescheduled the RFFP Meeting and Mixer to 11/19, at the Bethlehem Grange.  To be re-named the Farmer Thanksgiving, we will hear from several farmers who lost crops due to the flooding of Tropical Storms Irene and Lee, and we will be cutting checks directly to them from the Irene Farmer Relief Fund (over $20,000was raised to date!).  It will be a celebration of community spirit and thanksgiving.  Please plan on attending this one!

The growing season has ended; winter snows will soon envelope the land.  It's the perfect time to come together and reflect on the successes of the last year, and the challenges we face in the coming year.

In two decades, local farm-to-consumer markets in northeast New York grew greatly.  Farmers Markets are ubiquitous  The Locavore movement helped farmers to survive the death spiral of commodity markets.

RFFP was there all along, creating initiatives, educating awareness to prod along progress.  Despite these successes, RFFP and local farming are at a crossroads.
As old farmers retire, who will replace them to keep farms productive?
How do young people with farming passion acquire land and equipment?
How do new farmers learn the wisdom of retiring master farmers?
How do we teach consumers local-grown food is superior to long-distance imports?

Come join us to discuss these and other food system topics.
